Outbreak: A 60-Minute AI Decision Simulation for Your Sixth Form Induction
The July induction window
Late-June to early-July — target the window while students are still available after GCSEs and before results day, while their plans are still open.
A 60-minute hybrid experience
Led in the room by Paul Beashel, with Professor Graham Ball (Professor of AI in the Life Sciences) joining live online.
Seamless school integration
Your school provides the room and screen; we bring all simulation materials and facilitation.
What students gain
- Critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving under pressure
- Practical experience using AI-style tools with real scientific constraints
- Confidence to question outputs and exercise professional judgement
- Exposure to life-sciences decision-making in a safe, facilitated setting
Handled responsibly
The science is real; themes are addressed factually and proportionately. AI is presented as neither an oracle nor a threat. Participation is opt-in; no session recordings are taken.
Led by experts
Programme Director, FutureReady
Professor of AI in the Life Sciences
The session is led by Paul Beashel in the room, with Professor Graham Ball online. Outbreak runs for 60 minutes, followed by a 30-minute introduction to FutureReady for students who want to find out more.
For schools in Essex
Sessions are being hosted at partner schools this July — some opening their sessions to students from neighbouring schools as well as their own.
If your school would like to take part, host a session, or share information with families, contact Paul Beashel:
